    Joe,

Great work on this presentation. I would love to see how Walton responded to your work. So glad to hear that Noel Weeks’ work was beneficial. He is highly regarded around Westminster’s campus. Thanks for linking to this.

      Hi Mark,

I’m disappointed Laidlaw still hasn’t posted the video. It’s been nearly two months.

Walton presented first. If you’re familiar with his work there wouldn’t be many surprises except possibly near the end where he denied the historicity of Adam more clearly than I’ve heard him before.

He was very unhappy with my presentation & said so at the beginning of the Q&A which unsettled me quite a bit. Yet, most of the questions were directed to him anyway.

After recordings were turned off he expressed his dislike with my presentation even more strongly, both to me & the folks at Laidlaw. This could be why they’ve not posted the video.

Currid told me the week before my presentation to look over the bibliographies & footnotes of Walton’s two Genesis books to see how he engages with his critics. What I found, was what Currid was alluding to… Walton doesn’t. He doesn’t reference or interact with any of the Evangelical scholars who are raising concerns over his theory.

At best that is poor scholarship.

Weeks is highly regarded all over. I’ve spoked with him in Sydney on a few occasions & have been looking for an opportunity to get him here to New Zealand. He hasn’t spoken here for a number of years since the main Bible colleges here have wholly walked away from a historical view of Genesis 1-11.

      Thanks…

      Joe

How could Walton respond to critiques in his books, when the books contain the very thesis that he proposes? It would be premeditated to try guess what other evangelicals will say about his thesis and respond within the book. Usually the interaction with objections happens after the books publishing. And this very much happened (see the Walton/Polythress discussion). Also, Walton’s books have been reviewed in a plethora of evangelical journals. Poor scholarship? Really?

      Hi Mark –

Laidlaw finally put up the video from my evening with John Walton:

      Just an FYI…
